Why is my cat throwing up yellow liquid?

Yellow vomit is usually bile, brought up on an empty stomach. The classic pattern is a cat fed twice a day where the overnight gap stretches long enough to irritate the stomach lining. The fix is feeding pattern: split the daily portion into three or four smaller meals, or add a small wet-food snack at bedtime. An otherwise-well cat with occasional bilious vomit isn’t an emergency. A cat throwing up yellow liquid every day, or who’s also lethargic or off food, is different.

When to call a vet: frequent yellow vomit, vomit with blood, lethargy, weight loss or appetite changes can signal IBD, pancreatitis, liver disease or hyperthyroidism. See your vet.
