How long can a cat go without pooping?

Most cats poop once a day, sometimes twice. Up to 24 to 36 hours without can be within normal range, especially right after a diet change or a stressful event like travel. Past 48 hours is constipation territory and worth attention. Past 72 hours is a same-day vet call. While you’re watching, set up the right conditions: a clean litter box, easy access to water, and a partial wet-food meal can sometimes restart things. Don’t give over-the-counter laxatives without your vet’s say-so.

When to call a vet: 48 hours or more without stool, visible straining, or any blood or repeat episodes means a vet visit, not a wait-and-see.
