What can I do at home for my cat’s diarrhea?
For a single bout in an otherwise bright, eating cat, you can offer simple support: keep fresh water available, feed a plain easily digested meal in smaller portions and skip treats, milk and rich food for a day or two. A little plain canned pumpkin firms things up for some cats. Don’t reach for human anti-diarrhea medicines, since several are toxic to cats. What you can’t fix at home is the cause if it’s an infection, parasite or something she ate, so persistent or severe cases need a vet.
When to call a vet: Diarrhea lasting more than 48 hours, or with blood, vomiting, lethargy or a kitten or senior cat involved, warrants a prompt vet visit.
