Why does my cat headbutt me?

That gentle bump of her head against you, sometimes called bunting, is a friendly, affiliative gesture. Cats have scent glands on their face, and by rubbing her head on you she’s mixing her scent with yours and marking you as part of her group. It’s a sign of trust and comfort, usually offered to people and animals she feels safe with. You can answer it with slow blinks and gentle attention. It’s entirely normal and one of the clearer ways a cat says she’s bonded to you.
