Why does my cat knead me with her paws?

Kneading, that rhythmic push-pull with the front paws often called making biscuits, starts in kittenhood, when nursing kittens knead to stimulate milk. In adult cats it carries over as a comfort and contentment behavior, usually aimed at a soft surface or a favorite person. Some cats also leave a little scent from glands in their paws, marking you as theirs. It’s a compliment, basically. If the claws are a problem, lay a thick blanket on your lap or keep her nails trimmed rather than discouraging the behavior itself.
