If I just wait, will my hungry cat eventually eat?
This is the single most dangerous piece of advice for cat owners. Cats are not like dogs: a healthy adult cat that goes 24 to 48 hours without eating is at real risk of developing hepatic lipidosis, a serious liver condition. Overweight cats are at the highest risk. If your cat refuses food for more than a day, call your vet. Do not try to wait her out, withhold food to “make her hungry,” or assume she will give in.
