Why does my cat have black spots on her chin?
Those little black specks on the chin are usually feline chin acne, blocked oil glands that look like blackheads and sometimes progress to red bumps. Plastic food and water bowls are a frequent trigger, since they scratch and harbor bacteria. Switching to shallow stainless steel or ceramic bowls and washing them daily often clears mild cases. Don’t squeeze or pick at the bumps. If the chin turns red, swollen, sore or infected, a vet can treat it properly rather than letting it flare.
When to call a vet: A red, swollen or painful chin, or acne that keeps coming back, should be seen by a vet.
