Why does my cat have such smelly gas?

Occasional gas is normal, but truly foul, frequent gas usually traces back to diet or how she eats. Swallowing air by gulping food, a diet that doesn’t agree with her, sudden food changes, dairy or rich table scraps are common triggers. Try slowing her eating, keeping treats and dairy out and transitioning any food change gradually over a week or two. Persistent strong gas, especially alongside loose stool, weight loss or a rumbling belly, can signal a food intolerance or a GI problem worth investigating.

When to call a vet: Ongoing foul gas with diarrhea, weight loss or appetite changes deserves a vet visit to rule out GI disease.
