What human foods are toxic to cats?
Several everyday foods are genuinely dangerous. Onions, garlic, chives and leeks can damage a cat’s red blood cells. Chocolate, caffeine, alcohol and the sweetener xylitol are toxic. Grapes and raisins, raw bread dough and excessive salt belong on the avoid list too. Even foods that aren’t toxic, like a lot of fatty table scraps, can upset her stomach. When in doubt, don’t share it. If you think your cat has eaten something toxic, call your vet or an animal poison control line right away rather than waiting for symptoms.
When to call a vet: If your cat eats onion, garlic, chocolate, xylitol, grapes or another toxic food, call your vet or a pet poison control line immediately.
