Are food toppers and gravies a good idea for picky cats?
They can help in two ways. Aromatic toppers (warm broth, a sprinkle of freeze-dried meat, a teaspoon of plain wet food over kibble) make the meal smell more interesting and often jumpstart an eater who has lost interest. Gravies do similar work for cats who like the soft, wet experience. The caveat is calories: toppers can add up fast, so for cats managing weight or on a therapeutic diet, count them against the daily intake. Toppers are not a fix for true appetite loss. If your cat is barely eating, call your vet.
