Why does my cat beg for food and then refuse to eat it?

A cat begging then refusing is usually asking for fresh, not more, or for the ritual of being fed (you, the kitchen, a new portion) rather than for additional calories. Wet food that has sat in the bowl since the last meal is the most common culprit, even if it looks fine. Pick up the old bowl, warm a small fresh portion and serve in a clean dish. If the pattern is constant and comes with weight loss, talk to your vet.
