Why does my cat only eat the gravy and leave the rest?
Cats often prefer the gravy or topping part of wet food because it carries the strongest aroma and the most volatile flavor compounds, and cats decide a lot about food by smell. The pate underneath is less interesting once the gravy is gone. Mixing the gravy into the pate before serving, warming the bowl slightly to body temperature or rotating to a different format (chunks rather than pate) usually helps. If she suddenly drops a long-time favorite, also rule out dental or other medical issues.
